first & just a further confirmation in todays news
from the horn that the commotion in addis ababa
overwhelming the late djeret try is now being trumped
itself too
by events in khartoum
where jendayi
even if she hasnt yet arrived
must already have her hands full with sudan
unexpectedly reviving its bid to head up the african
union
yikes

so back to the latvian tripoints

since i am surprised not to hear any first hand
accounts yet barry
just to speak to your concerns
i will give you my second hand impressions anyway
of how closely guarded those borders actually were as
of a few years ago at least
when the only reported visits were tried

several detachments of fairly officious border guards
were encountered in the fairly immediate tripoint
areas
even preventing photography in one case
yikes
as well as being generally ominous
& whats worse
possibly even providing wrong tripointing info too
hahaha

& this was even before the european union border had
arrived

but some friendly & helpful guards were reported
thereabouts too
so you never know

or rather you can be sure you will attract the company
that best matches your own vibe
since birds of a feather do flock together

but i suspect such events are rather fortuitous &
unpredictable anyway
especially since all the immediate triareas are
situated in at least somewhat remote locations

so if you do your homework & plan your approaches to
avoid any obvious control or choke points
my guess is you may come & go to all these locations
unobserved & in total solitude

but even if you are discovered
wandering around anywhere unrestricted within the
european union
i think it would still be no problem provided you have
the correct paperwork
which i just assume you do
or would have

of course be very circumspect about being observed
while making unpapered encroachments outside the
european union
such as when wading out to bag a tripoint

but actually this might be more of a problem in a
place like czdepl than at bylvru or eelvru
just because it is more open country there as well as
not nearly so remote

of course getting arrested after youve bagged your
point is usually entirely acceptable

unless you are caught with a lot of drugs or something

border jail doesnt usually last long

but getting stopped or busted on the way to the target
is what is to be most particularly avoided

finally
& just to save messages & time lags
thanx again to arif for updating us
& i wish someone who can would put you back up on top
of our links page where you belong
since thats where i always reach for your goodies from
but i also wish you would keep updating your local
quadripoints collection there too
seeing as 2006 has nominated itself as the year of the
quadripoint

happily we still have a long way to go collecting
secondary & tertiary etc megapoints
