http://www.nativeweb.org/pages/legal/sovereignty.html presents american
indian & other nonwestern views of sovereignty & territory
even elucidating the islamic perspective that was recently asked about here
& especially lots about the popes
& suggests how the indian tribes whose sovereignty is already nominally
recognized by the american government could easily proceed to become
independent countries

another site i saw but cant find again now said
the tribes per the united states constitution
are the legal equals of the states
& are not really subsumed by any of the states
since they enjoy a primary federative relationship with the federal government
just as all the regular 50 states & the territories do

the discussion is interesting in several ways
but not least for its implications on our global count of world class
boundary crosses
which is presently limited to the 2 or 3 cases well known to us
but might grow dramatically with native american secessionism

besides
several reservations have just been found to have at least 1 fragclave each
& deserve closer scrutiny
namely
campo
la posta
mesa grande &
pauma

& at least one other
the pala mission
was found on topos to contain as many as 6 boundary crosses
plus
3 fragexclaves
2 penefragexclaves
1 enclave &
4 peneenclaves

& indeed i was astonished to find about a third of its territory also
indicated as national forest by the usgs
which seemed totally surreal to me
so i dont know how much of any of this to believe

moreover it may be significant that a pala map of the pala reservation
which agrees in many regards & details with the usgs topos
crops the national forest part off entirely
& completely ignores all 16 of the critical details enumerated above
suggesting to me that something funny is going on there
possibly a land swap that smoothed everything over
or it could just be their peculiarly streamlined art

but maybe they are lowballing their crosses etc at this time for some reason

or maybe someone is just closing their eyes there a bit

also in california the santa rosa indian reservation has 2 or possibly 3
exclaves
also called fragments by our fragmephiles
& it even sports a phantom boundary cross

yes now you see it & now you dont again
depending on which scale at topozone you use

the nearby morongo reservation is also suspected of bearing a cross
but the signs there are still harder to read

both are neighbors & possible checkermates of the agua caliente
reservation in palm springs whose 55 crosses lit up an earlier scouting
mission
