the next point in the sequence was chdawi<br/>

which you may recall i previewed as follows last week<br/>
<br/>
looks like a high dry approach route of under a mile<br/>
from north street<br/>
with the 645m knolltop available for topographic<br/>
navigation <br/>
as well as for setting a final course of 550 feet due<br/>
west of it<br/>
<br/>
but the event wasnt nearly so straightforward as i had<br/>
imagined<br/>
<br/>
having parked at the little circular knoll on north<br/>
street just east of the cursor cross position<br/>
i tried first for the expected high dry approach<br/>
across the height of land between the opposing<br/>
watersheds shown on the map <br/>
<br/>
once again the veggies were quite thick & almost<br/>
stopped me cold<br/>
<br/>
it seems the farther upcounty one goes<br/>
the more gingerly one needs to proceed thru the woods<br/>
in any case<br/>
<br/>
biting raspberry tangles & pointy old spruce branches <br/>
for example<br/>
are everywhere<br/>
<br/>
& there was in fact nothing high or dry about this way<br/>
in either<br/>
<br/>
ultimately an impassable bog turned me back<br/>
<br/>
so i scouted farther north along north street for a<br/>
better way in<br/>
figuring if i diverted toward woodchuck hill first<br/>
i might jump the brook to its east more easily than<br/>
the swamplands farther south<br/>
<br/>
i entered the driveway at the 634 meter elevation<br/>
point<br/>
where i found the owner mowing<br/>
& asked him if he would permit me to bushwhack across<br/>
his land<br/>
<br/>
he said sure but wouldnt i rather take the old hiking<br/>
trail that starts just 1 house to the south of his<br/>
neither of which are shown on the topo<br/>
& he gave me directions to find the almost invisible<br/>
trailhead <br/>
as well as a place to park nearby<br/>
<br/>
& sure enough<br/>
it was easy going this way as far as the brook<br/>
which i crossed easily too<br/>
& then diverted south <br/>
by bushwhacking <br/>
no longer so easily<br/>
along the ridge or hump that led me toward the 645<br/>
meter elevation point<br/>
<br/>
this however was not a peak or knoll but a broad flat<br/>
topped feature<br/>
so i couldn&#39;t be sure i actually found the exact 645<br/>
point indicated<br/>
& thus couldnt get a confident terminal bearing or<br/>
distance<br/>
but could only guess from the gentle westward slope<br/>
where i might find the tripoint position<br/>
<br/>
& after rummaging all about the target area without<br/>
success<br/>
again in dense woods<br/>
i gave it up for hopeless<br/>
<br/>
then <br/>
trying to bushwhack more directly back to my car <br/>
i misread the angle of the sun enough to drift too far<br/>
south<br/>
& found myself facing the pond & the morass to its<br/>
north that had initially stopped my westbound progress<br/>
now stopping my eastbound retrogress<br/>
<br/>
it was getting late & i had to pick my way farther &<br/>
farther north very carefully before finding any dry<br/>
enough ground to continue east on<br/>
<br/>
exhaustion & concern about getting caught by nightfall<br/>
told me the chips were down & i couldnt afford any<br/>
more mistakes or missteps<br/>
<br/>
but i eventually reemerged on north street late in the<br/>
day<br/>
much in need of refreshment & repairs<br/>
<br/>
the momentum of my program however <br/>
& the knowledge that i could rest & recuperate while<br/>
driving <br/>
as well as at greater leisure after nightfall<br/>
kept me moving on toward the next tripoint<br/>
chsawi<br/>

where i thought i might be able to at least rest up<br/>
til morning<br/>
& where i parked at what appeared to be the chsa town<br/>
line<br/>
& got the local dogs barking <br/>
but didn&#39;t make a serious try<br/>

the blazed town lines that were fairly common in south<br/>
county are completely missing in these remoter areas<br/>
of the north county<br/>
<br/>
so my earlier desire that things be not quite so easy<br/>
had been fulfilled<br/>
<br/>
even the points where the town lines cross the roads<br/>
in these deep woods arent very clear in many cases <br/>
<br/>
so now i was wondering if i could even hope to find<br/>
chsawi<br/>
had i not already been too bushed & the hour too late<br/>
to try anyway<br/>
<br/>
so i looked for a quieter place to park & hopefully<br/>
spend the night<br/>
which i found fairly directly<br/>
but soon after dark i was rousted by a local resident<br/>
swinging a flashlight around<br/>
so i bumbled on down the road<br/>
but was unable to find anything better in the dark<br/>
til i reached downtown adams<br/>
where i slept fitfully in a church parking lot<br/>
still only dreaming of finding my elusive 22nd<br/>
tripoint<br/>
<br/>
morning came but i hadnt a clue what to try next<br/>
<br/>
i had already tried 4 tripoints in quest of my elusive<br/>
but important 22nd success<br/>
& had bought 2 double packs of film as well<br/>
but still hadnt gotten off a single shot<br/>
<br/>
so i relaxed & waited for inspiration<br/>
<br/>
