visited both the oldest working rock in america candidates yesterday
at the plymouth plantation boundary with massachusetts bay colony
we were on the oldest boundary in america
dating back to 1628 or 1629
but
according to the charming commemorative simulated heap of stones we found there
the purportedly surviving boundary marker if any
is a different heap of stones no longer necessarily recognizable today
& does indeed date from only 1664
as previously noted
this i dutifully photographed
with its very readable modern inscription
then scoured the neighborhood for any other available or plausible heap of stones
in case it chanced to be the real one
but the only possible one i found was a rock garden
directly across the road in someones private yard
& exactly where predicted too btw
on the topo i flashed last week
photographed this heap too
& will post both pix in due time
along with the one i later took of bound rock in new hampshire
for bound rock must now be considered the leading & seemingly unchallenged candidate
in dating as it evidently does from 1656 or 1657
couldnt read any inscription on it tho
deep in its dark cavernous crypt
it was quite huge & had no sign of an exact point indicator
now we are just drifting thru the idyllic countryside of maine
having had my obligatory lobster roll already
no pointing tries presently on the horizon
lucky library internet hit here at liberty
but closing soon
at high noon
beeps
