I&#39;ve just got back from Longyearbyen and it most certainly has the <br/>
trappings of being a town, plus it has a population of around 2,000 <br/>
persons. I&#39;m not sure of its exact municipal status within Norway (even if <br/>
you consider it to be an integral part of Norway), but it has a form of <br/>
local government. However, there are permanently-inhabited settlements even <br/>
further north on Svalbard (e.g. Ny Ålesund).<br/>

As there is no universally agreed definition on what constitutes a city, <br/>
town or village, the Hammerfest claim cannot be seriously entertained.<br/>
