well we just made 3 equally elusive tries for a 1687 ejwj rock along the old province line
tho jc did spot a very nice 1971 monument on the roadside commemorating the original survey
& most peculiarly situated it was
very near an old octagonal stone well cover
which was split into halves that were then slightly offset by the turnkey
& tho not identical
this offset octagon was still so oddly reminiscent of the slight offset in the sussex octagons which i had just also discovered today
that i could scarcely believe my eyes
but of course it was just a meaningless near coincidence
& how rare are octagons really anyway
but in any case
i dont think the 1687 ejwj task entirely beyond hope of success yet
& still have a few more choice locations left to try
however
the most promising one of all
where a ridge line crosses a surveyed & blazed county line
involves getting permission to cross some closely held private property first
so as night is already falling
i am suspending the try for now
& proceeding to skirt philadelphia on the north & west toward depa
for i can always resume ejwj on the return trip
one other highlight worth mentioning tho was getting stuck in the mud exactly on the county line just below 3 bridges
tho i didnt realize my direct hit til the adjacent property owner told me i could believe him it was so
but perhaps more importantly or at least more amusingly
i did also ascertain that there are indeed 3 bridges across the raritan even today very near the downtown area of the community of 3bridges
unlike the missing 3 bighas
or the lost 29 palms
etc
etc
