i am finding that the definitional requirement that there be a
perceptible protrusion from a perceptible mainland
as first enunciated by lowell i think
also places a limit on the size of the winning peninsula
yikes
since whichever is the larger lobe thus cannot be the peninsula
yikes
but must serve instead as the mainland from which the smaller
lobe protrudes as peninsula
aha
& thus by strict geographical definition it is not the larger but the
smaller lobe that will actually win the largest peninsula title
hahaha
& this smaller lobe will become not only the gold medalist of
afroeurasia but of the entire world in fact
for this is no longer just a minor inter regional matter
hahaha
but a real world record in the making worthy of guinness
the worlds largest peninsula
arabia & baja & india all currently make the claim
but guinness himself is silent for some reason
so please stand by for more & better data if i possibly can
or better yet please help however you possibly can
but in the meantime
the other geographic requirement of any true peninsula
namely the isthmus
or narrows or neck or what i have been calling the waistline here
remains unnamed
yes this great if hitherto unnoticed afroeurasian isthmus &
worlds most nearly perfect continental divide
incredibly
still needs a good name
if anyone would care to do the honors
i have in the meantime temporarily appropriated the name of the
most obvious & convenient geographical feature that the
isthmus crosses
& have named it for the time being
the narrows of transcaucasia
or the transcaucasian isthmus for short
if indeed anyone can say that in any amount of time
& just to try to also refine the names of the lobes at the same
time
i think
the asioid would be truer & therefore better than the asiatic
& the afroeuric would make a similar improvement upon the
afroeuropean
& these would just about do it as precisely & concisely as
possible
while incidentally providing enough panache for any prospective
gold medalist peninsula that might emerge
except that
just the left & the right
or better yet
just the east & the west
might well be the best
