That must be the main reason for not putting up "Welcome to N.I."
or "Welcome to the R.o.I."-signs. The "Welcome to France" or "Welcome
to Spain" signs on the inner Basque border usually don't last very
long, either.

Which goes for all signs with text in areas where there is a
territorial or language conflict. Trying to find your way around
without a map in such areas may be very difficult, with all those
signs painted over.
