It's "too late now", but just in case anyone taped
it, or in case it shows up somewhere down the road,
there was a story on Canada's Global TV show Global
National yesterday(Sept 8th) that showed maintenance
of the border vista. It was in Quebec, and showed:
- workers removing brush, and cutting down trees
- removal of a small shack
- a rustic-looking 'cabin' that was in the woods,
right on the edge of the border vista, which
apparently was OK, as they weren't removing it
- a broken border monument, of the same style as
shown in my photo:

- replacement of a border monument(the broken one
shown above?), in which there was a hole of maybe
4 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet deep, with the new
monument 'in place' being held by wooden bracing,
and a person with a survey-grade GPS, and another
person who, in response to direction from the person
with the GPS, was using a sledge hammer to tap the
base of the monument(down in the hole) to get it into
exactly the right position
