because the stitch doesnt appear to have been necessary for
these 3 counties to meet at a single point
& it seems they would still have met at the same point even
without the stitch or jog
& with only a west line projected from somewhere within the
south fork confluence
as stipulated loosely by the text
producing in any case a truly needle nosed proruption
on further perusal however
i do think some minor displacement of the tripoint position
from where the usgs topos show it
may be warranted
because
based on the depiction of the ghost banks
this actual ncsc turnpoint & tricounty point
tho not the same as the marked point being sought by the divers
which is of course upon the ghost bank
could lie a few hundred feet east or upstream from the position
depicted
resulting in an even pointier needle
& i believe the west line should go direct from the tip of the
needle nose to the first marker shown on the topo
which is upon the right bank of catawba creek
& that the rest of the 65 miles is probably substantially correct as
shown
but i do appreciate that you have validated this dive try as not just
a state line try but a tricounty point witness mark try as well
