had to suspend the sawanabori performance temporarily yesterday despite a
most propitious soaking rain & another free ride almost to the exact
neighborhood
because what i really need to do next is throw a canoe onto the truck &
launch it into state line pond so i can personally compare both feeder
streams
preferably on a dry & therefore nonconfusing day
the following inconclusive but still fairly suggestive aerial photo shows
the unnamed brook popping out visually
at right
far more than sawmill brook ever pops out
at top
http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=12&x=903&y=5819&z=18&w=1
but zooming in any farther on the actual stream mouths is no real help
& a reliable comparison of the surface areas of these 2 so nearly equal
watersheds would really require paper copies of the several topo sheets for
the necessary accuracy
while ordering these could slow us down for weeks
so the only careful but still aggressive continuation does appear to be by
canoe
& we can always resort to the watershed area comparison later
if this visual stream volume comparison is inconclusive
but be all that as it may
i can tell you already now
i have previously scouted out the tops of both watersheds
& they are so overgrown right now with veggies & bugs
that it really wont be possible to complete the sourcing without a machete
etc till fall dieback anyway
regardless of the canoe or paper topo outcomes
so still no hurry to load the canoe
but i will be returning to state line pond today anyway
for the third cosmic free ride
just to continue reconnoitering
aggressively
with a camera anyway
beeps
