Over strenuous objections from Japan, South Korea issued 2.25 million postage
stamps yesterday depicting some disputed rocks in the Sea of Japan that it calls
Tok Do. The stamps sold out in a matter of hours. Japan now threatens a stamp
of its own depicting the rocks, which it calls Takeshima. The uninhabited
specks are also sometimes known as the Laincourt Rocks.
