 </span></blockquote>I&#39;m no hydrologist, but here&#39;s my take:<br/>
<br/>
The water table probably falls during the day due to evaporation from the salt.<br/>
Through the night, water probably soaks upward through the salt from below.  It<br/>
would be highest at early morning before the surface heats, and evaporation sets<br/>
in again.<br/>
