here is a brief trip report:<br/>

Two conditions helped make this a particularly successful attempt at<br/>
MNNDSD.  First, the access road had been mowed very recently, all the<br/>
way from the connecting N-S road to a point 30 or 40 feet east of the<br/>
witness monument.  The road was deeply rutted in places but there is<br/>
almost nowhere a rental car can&#39;t go!<br/>

Second, and more important, the Bois de Sioux was nearly dry.  The<br/>
water was maybe 8 feet wide, making it possible to walk to the<br/>
location 9 chains east of the witness monument (as estimated by GPS).<br/>
 Wading was possible if somewhat unpleasant.  There were a number of<br/>
waterlogged thistle-heads, sticks, and other unseen objects in the<br/>
brownish-green opaque water.<br/>

I was not able to recover the embryonic cairn at 135 feet east of the<br/>
witness marker.  There has been some recent activity here involving<br/>
large coils of black corrugated tubing that may have disturbed the<br/>
marker.  The grass was also very tall and dense so I may have missed it.<br/>

As usual at this location, ticks and mosquitos were big problems.  I<br/>
probably brushed off 30 ticks and swatted 200 mosquitos during this<br/>
adventure.<br/>

I made sure to cover every point between the witness monument and the<br/>
center of the river, so I hereby declare a class B visit.<br/>
<br/>
I stopped in White Rock to sign the guest register and made a side<br/>
trip to the White Rock Dam, which impounds Upper Traverse Lake.  Here<br/>
I saw the Bois de Sioux gaging station, whose data is available<br/>

Miscellaneous activities include eating at Dale&#39;s Steakhouse, a metal<br/>
shed S of Wheaton with pretty good prime rib, and staying at the<br/>
Wheaton Inn, a good choice unless you have a tent, van, or hammock. <br/>
The jet stream was very cooperative on Monday, making the flight from<br/>
Minneapolis to Boston 2 hours and 6 minutes.<br/>
