the best progress i can claim to have made so far is with dry bpe<br/>
for i have at least definitely located it at one of 4 monuments all <br/>
somewhere in south central new guinea <br/>
at or very near elong 141d01m10s <br/>
& numbered respectively mm11 mm12 mm13 & mm14<br/>

these are all mapped as well as precisely geocoordinated in<br/>

the difficulty here tho is that until someone lays an industrial <br/>
strength gps on all 4 of these monuments<br/>
we wont know which of them is a few millimeters farther east <br/>
than the others<br/>
tho it is some consolation to at least know the longitude of dry <br/>
bpe down to the nearest second wherever it may lie<br/>

no pix of any of the 4 candidate monuments nor of any of the 14 <br/>
probably identical monuments in this series have yet been found<br/>

turning next to dry bpw<br/>
which is in itself a fun thing to do<br/>
since it lies at almost the mirror image of the dry bpe longitude<br/>
this has been a real beguiler because it is right here on caus<br/>
& tho i have long had its location down to about a 10 foot square <br/>
at wlong 141d00m07s6 & nlat 60d18m22s9<br/>
& can identify it both as boundary point 187 & as the famous <br/>
turnpoint on a shoulder of mount saint elias where the long <br/>
meridional caus line begins its peak to peak zigzag down the <br/>
alaska panhandle<br/>
i dont even know if it is monumented<br/>

in fact i rather doubt it is marked at all <br/>
strange tho it feels to imagine a completely naked turnpoint<br/>
because many of its serial mates have expressly been assigned <br/>
monument numbers by the ibc rather than simply boundary point <br/>
numbers such as this point & some others have <br/>

& tho picture archives show many of the key monuments on the <br/>
alaska border<br/>
none is ever mentioned as existing at this most critical position<br/>

pix of mount saint elias also abound<br/>
but none in which this turnpoint or any part of the border can be <br/>
discerned<br/>

i did just find several interesting pages tho about this peculiar <br/>
peak to peak caus line dating back to 1825 when it was still gbru <br/>
beginning at<br/>

being a whopping 15 degrees less extreme than it<br/>
this point is easily identifiable as being where the argentina chile <br/>
meridional border meets the beagle channel on tierra del fuego<br/>
but i have found no word of where the terminal monument lies <br/>
& no pic yet of any arcl monument anywhere for that matter<br/>
nor any pic yet either of the otherwise much photographed <br/>
channel showing the place where the border strikes it<br/>
<br/>
a most mysterious & intriguing complete absence of data<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
so all in all it is hard to say which of these 3 tries has been most <br/>
elusive so far</div>
