a review of the surfable data indicates no news of the further
actualization of the new ellis island njny boundary since jan 2000
when final congressional ratification was still pending
as it presumably still is

so if njny ellis is a candidate for americas shortest
it is evidently only a prospective candidate
& thus an immediate trip to the island might be premature in any
case
even if the 180 points are already marked there on the ground

& i think we can now make the final pronouncement
for now
which is
the shortest state line in the usa is kytn2
at about 3 miles
yeay
followed by depa
which is also the shortest interstate boundary in the usa
at about 20 miles
ref message 9922 etc

footnotes
1
if rationalized fractal boundary candidates are included
both njny liberty & extant njny ellis are not only serious
contenders
but probably each the winner in its own right
yikes
at perhaps 2 miles each in circumambulation
yet since the 2 appear so nearly equal
& since extant njny ellis is unknowable exactly
it remains unknowable as well which of the 2 is shorter
hahaha
& therefore the shortest of all 3
if it were allowed
but to do so would ignore truest available truth
2
the azco & nmut point at azconmut
measuring in at exactly 0 miles
is or are disqualified by the formulation
state line
tho it or they might qualify as shortest boundary or boundaries
3
looking ahead probably to some day in the near future
when the new njny ellis is fully realized
i have already been able to estimate the perimeter of the 180
point model at about 2 miles
making it very probably americas future shortest state line
but the call is so close that it cant be made with confidence til
measurement or computation of the total length is made

so thats the state of the union for now
& i would say a trip to ellis is perhaps inevitable &or imminent
but not urgent & possibly even rash at this point

& i will call the njdep monday to see if i cant get the coords of the
180 points
since knowing them would permit computations that would
actually obviate the measuring trip entirely
even assuming there is anything there yet to measure
which i cant & dont
etc

so at least a phonecall
before pointing & bounding further
