hopes of finding a second order quintipoint in lake nicaragua have been
encouraged by the recent discovery that various islands in the lake are
definitely associated with at least 3 of the 5 departments surrounding the
lake

but the islands could have become attracted to their respective departments
by geographical proximity alone rather than by any formal territorial
distribution of the lake as a whole

nevertheless the relation of the lake & its islands to the departments so
far as they are known makes it seem likely that a quintidepartmental point
may already exist or could eventually emerge within a large empty area in
the middle of the lake

however it is still unclear whether nicaragua has actually adopted here the
same pie slicing technique as was formerly used to divide antarctica & as
survives on the tertiary level for dividing lake okeechobee among 5 florida
counties
or whether some other scheme for the allocation of the lake has been adopted
or again whether all of lake nicaragua remains entirely & indivisibly
nicaraguan
as its very name implies
in much the same way as navigable canadian waters remain indivisibly
canadian & belong to no province or territory

for the overview please see
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/Map_collection/americas/Nicaragua_pol_97.jpg
in which the area inscribed lago de nicaragua represents the most
probable target zone for any actual or potential quintidepartmental point

the fact that no maps or descriptions of departmental boundaries within the
lake have been found is not conclusive
for such a data gap could as plausibly indicate the indifference of the
mapmakers or the obscurity of the legal basis as the actual territorial
integrity of the lake

a series of handsome outline maps of the departments & municipalities of
nicaragua may represent the best available truth for the time being

http://mail.cablenet.com.ni/pais/deptos/rsanjuan.html at least clearly
indicates that the solentiname archipelago belongs to rio san juan
department

& the corresponding html for rivas department similarly shows ometepe
island belongs to that department
& that of granada department shows zapateca island belongs to that department
while corresponding maps of chontales & boaco departments show no islands
in association with them
as you can see

for these or to enjoy any other departments of nicaragua in pastels
just change the department name in the above url

to be sure
any help in coming to a positive determination of this matter would be
greatly appreciated
since a nicaraguan quinti secondary point bochgrriri
if it exists
will clearly outrank the floridian quinti tertiary point glhemaokpa
in the quest for the most sovereign point on earth
