Thanks to David and Lynn we have an explanation of the why and how.
For those who want to quickly look at some of these in AL, GA, NC and
SC I recommend Road Atlas USA. I have version 7.0. If you go to
magnification level 11 the shape of town and city boundaries shows
quite clearly. At other map mag levels the boundaries do not show. At
level 11 my screen covers about 30 x 20 miles and you can scan very
rapidly to adjacent areas so you can avoid getting bired as David
did. Last night I counted over 60 in the southern half of Georgia in
about 30 minutes. Then I looked at surounding states and found lots
of circles in SC and AL and a few in NC. None found in MS or TN.
