tho i had visited alflga twice previously many years ago
as well as i could in the days before it was monumented
3 retries made today to find the 2year old monument
from the sw & nw & west respectively
all fell far short of the mark

a formerly successful access route was locked this time
& i even remade one mistake today that i had also made previously
doh
straying far to the north when the sun again disappeared

you can see the layout fairly well on topozone
tho the maps are badly misleading
particularly with regard to the trails

will try again with a revised plan tomorrow
possibly by boat from the launch 2mi downstream
or possibly walking east overland along alfa again
from chattahoochee state park in alabama
but with a strategic detour this time deep into florida
from the point of the irwin marker
which btw is about the only thing en route that is shown correctly

such a radical zigzag maneuver now seems the best bet for picking up
the winning but locked trail that follows along the irwin creek
toward the chattahoochee somewhat as depicted on the map

meanwhile back here at the marianna library
no trace of nearby oktahatko yet in the local history files
tho it shows up a few times on the internet
& i have it narrowed down to a fairly tight target area
also marked for exploration tomorrow
