reports that the rio grande no longer peters out before reaching the gulf of
mexico
thanx to recent heavy rains in south texas
making things much easier in this unwalled area for the poor overworked
yanko border guards
who had been running themselves ragged chasing dry wetbacks
etc etc
but the main consequence of the renewed watercourse for tripointing is that
it is no longer possible to just walk across the dry river bed from the usa
to the mxtatx point 20 meters up the beach from the river mouth
it is sometimes possible to wade across the river mouth tho
along a sandbar
& it would be a short swim in any case
mxtatx is the usually overlooked tripoint on mxus where the state of
tamaulipas meets the peculiar mexican federal combined maritime & littoral
territory
there is a corresponding & similarly overlooked tripoint
bacamx
on the beach at tijuana near the other end of mxus
many countries reserve all offshore waters beyond the low tide line to their
federal government
& some like the usa & oz allocate the landward portions of their maritime
territory to the individual states
but the only other country known to have adopted a combined wet&dry coastal
arrangement like that of mexico is new zealand
which similarly extends its federal maritime territory a horizontal distance
of 20 meters up the beach above the high tide line
