nevertheless i adjourned or aborted the roundup at this point
because the data are proving to be a lot spottier & more fragmentary than
expected
& also because i finally realized it would save a lot of work in the end to
consult directly the various more specialized & detailed authorities for
each area of the world
such as brownlie for africa
or the world boundary series for america & the middle east
etc

& moreover any such comprehensive endeavor will be better postponed until
more sensible means of collecting & indexing the results are available

i will devote separate messages to some other finds & to questions you have
asked
& please feel free to ask any others while i have the book here to consult

but i should just add one caution here about all these promising photo
search terms
namely that a closer look at some of the mountain peaks i mentioned
yesterday has revealed some additional cases of possible simplification by
gideon
especially in austria as you may have noticed above
nor are such approximations surprising or objectionable in such a book
but point hounds may just need to be more exacting than this at times

like for example on mt uweinat
tho gideon identifies the peak as the tp in one place
he asserts elsewhere that the tp falls exactly at the intersection of lat
n22 & long e25 & thus perhaps only very near the peak rather than
necessarily at the precise summit point per se

& it seems from this & other signs of simplification that every mountain tp
in gideons list will still have to be double checked to see if it really is
a summit tp
etc
but i do expect brownlie et al will easily settle things like this
