I should also add that the boundary marker shown in
the picture looking east at the Hurtibuse house is a new one -- placed there in
1997. I can't recall the number, but it should be #598 I think. My
regular photographs will show that.
I asked Lyle Hurtibuse what happened to the old
one. He took be behind his barn and there, lying on the ground, was the
old border marker. It was about a metre long, but only the top bit stuck
out of the ground. What a souvenir! He planned to set it
up sometime, but had never gotten around to it. It may be one of the only
retired US-Canada border markers in existence.
