Greetings. I have posted in the list's
'files' section the text of a
short article from the International
Boundaries Research Unit's
Boundary & Security Bulletin which
describes the ill-fated work of
the 1925 Irish Boundary Commission, which
I hope sheds some light on
the reasons why the Republic of Ireland-UK
boundary remains poorly
defined to this day.
For a fascinating
insight into the nature of the boundary and its
surroundings I highly
recommend Colm Toibin's "Bad Blood", a
travelogue based on a walk along
the border in the early 1990s. For
an irreverent and often-hilarious
fictional account of the
consequences of partition on a border village,
look no further than
Spike Milligan's "Puckoon".
