It's the first tripoint monument I have seen of that kind so far.

When the new municipality of Steenwijkerland was founded and the three
municipalities of Brederwiede, IJsselham and Steenwijk ceased to exist, a
special commemorating tree was planted on the tripoint on 11 april 2001.
(rode beuk = red beech (Fagus))

An other example of trees being border markers:

Grenslinde
Grens = border/boundary;
linde is lime-tree (Tilia)
