first
multi mega salutes & thanxxx to jack & brian & bill & jesper & peter for
the many recent great gifts & developments serious as well as humorous

i will maintain & advance all these new initiatives
& would have sooner had i not been so off the map myself

but for now thank you all again
& everyone
for being so far out there even without me

i also cant wait to tell you
on thursday jane & i tried by canoe & i think successfully made the first
known class b visit in history to the ohio pennsylvania west virginia or
ohpawv tristate point situated in a heavily industrial area of & within
the ohio river

like we were out there too among the barges & cranes & derricks

this point is coincidentally also the northernmost one in west virginia
& the last wet tristate i could hope to own without a gps & more of a boat

we also made our way to the position of the modern successor point of the
original but now lost point of beginning of the public land system

the usgs indicates this modern day section corner as a point on dry land
scarcely 250 feet north of the combined ohpawv & wvn point within the river
yet itself high & dry & well within the large industrial compound that is
shown at the bottom of the present corner corner page
& i found this whole general target area unmarked
as well as heavily asphalted over & piled high with industrial commodities
for hundreds of feet in all directions

so much for naive optimism of an easy megafind

but perhaps our most rewarding adventure of the outing was a successful
unassisted snakumnavigation of the entire new york pennsylvania boundary
line

by that i mean we followed & visited this roughly 300 mile border at all of
its roughly 180 road crossings
between its new jersey or southern terminus
at njnypa
aka njn or northernmost new jersey
& its lake erie or northwest terminus
at the northernmost dry point of pennsylvania
aka dry pan
all without maps or gps or compass nor even sunshine frequently
& by dead reckoning & discernment alone of such traces as gravel changes etc
for the great majority of the way was in wilderness on unimproved roads
while recovering dozens of roadstones & other monuments

these included all 4 major witness stones of this boundary
situated near both termini & both of the turn points
which latter also happen to double as the so called northeast corner of
pennsylvania & southwest corner of new york successively

so at every point it seems we were at least doubling our pleasure

but in addition this entire state line runs thru some of the loveliest
country imaginable
from the idyllic upper delaware valley
to the somewhat more bucolic endless & allegheny mountains
yes the alleghenies dont begin until after the endlesses end
to the more rustic beauty of some really remote seneca & amish country

& will report more when the pix are ready

better even than the trip & the return tho was the arrival in the mail of a
photocopy of that elusive & delicious canadian bible entitled
the boundaries of canada its provinces & territories
which for pontiff max has preempted everything
as you may imagine
& even forshortened the trip
& which i will also like to report on at leisure too

but for now welcome back home yourselves
& a hearty & happy good night to one & all
