Bill, I was thinking that the brackets on the one monument were for a fence line--maybe at one time the fence was actually attached to the the boundary marker at that point.  I don't know.  When you come or a visit, we'll ask around.

Dallen, thank you!!!  I've been "anxiously" waiting for these!

The gap indicating US territory between the monument and the fence reminds me of several that I had noticed in Nogales...I always thought of it as "orphan territory" (from an American perspective anyway).

Some of the USMX monuments seem to have some sort of brackets on the side...presumably to hold marking flags of some sort?
