more Ghana/Togo/Benin Pics

Here are a few more pictures from West Africa taken in March-April 2001.

1) The Togo-Ghana border from the Ghana side.  The small blue building is the Ghana immigration office.  The fence marks the actual border line.  These borders are highly sensitive, so I had to sneak pictures even though I was on official business in cooperation with the Ghana Immigration Ministry!!!

2) The fence marks the border, which as you can see ends a fair distance from the ocean.  Picture taken from the Togo side.

3) These women are local traders taking their wares across to Ghana to sell.  The end of the border fence is visible in the distance, and these women will simply walk around it.

4) This picture is of Benin's entry gate on the main coastal 'highway' taken from the border zone, which is about 200 meters wide, the actual borderline being somewhere in between border stations.  Someone mentioned that Africa's borders are not well demarcated.  This is VERY true!!

Enjoy, there are a few more on the way.
