The 1679 date is only approx. from my memory.  I'll have to look it up in my notes, but I'm pretty sure it's from the 1600s sometime, but it could be the early 1700s.  I'll bet the marker is still there and would be worth visiting and documenting for those of you who live in that area before it's taken away and either thrown in a garbage pile by Connecticut's highway department or, less likely, put in a museum.

1679!  That would be the oldest marker any of us have found in the
US.  I did find what appears to be an original (1731) marker at the
former Connecticut - Massachusetts - New York colonial tri-point, but
it has no inscriptions to substantiate its antiquity.

Where would I look for the 1939 article you mentioned?
