after several fairly interesting near misses
a reasonably good companion has finally been found for the checkerboard
reservation in palm springs
this new one is the torres martinez reservation
located around the northern end of the salton sea
it is also inhabited by cahuilla indians
near relatives & neighbors of the agua caliente band
hence the similarity in design
er
just joking about that artistic connection
as it was probably u s grant at work again
torres martinez comprises a major chain plus 2 small exclave chains
which together produce 43 boundary crosses
plus 9 other fully exclaved nonchains
for a total of a dozen fully separated chunks
which is in itself a possible record among the reservations
art to follow
also
some small inaccuracies just discovered in my agua caliente art have
slightly reduced the number of boundary crosses there
hence the following revised american boundary cross census
agua caliente 58
torres martinez 43
pala 6
capitan grande 4
indian total 111
ute meridian 1
schley taylor 1
usa total 113
since one fairly comprehensive search has now been completed
i doubt there will be any more major new discoveries at this point
but a few individual stragglers would still seem likely
given what we already know here
