twice on sunday<br/>
high within the lightbulb tower on mount greylock<br/>
by trying to choose the top hoozits on the land mass<br/>
of massachusetts<br/>
i couldnt very well ignore my greater half & mas<br/>
higher portion <br/>
in the sky<br/>
<br/>
& for a while there i thought i might just suspend<br/>
play indefinitely<br/>
in endless halftime intermission of my overall<br/>
perfection try<br/>
& rest there upon my mountain laurels forever<br/>
in the wellness of my beginning & half doing<br/>
<br/>
for i felt quite fulfilled to have eaten half my cake <br/>
as well as delighted to still have the remaining half<br/>
too<br/>
<br/>
& i considered & contemplated the possibility that<br/>
there was not necessarily anywhere left to go<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
for about 10 minutes anyway<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
but being in such a beautiful place on such a<br/>
beautiful day<br/>
i was soon overwhelmed again by my spirit of endless<br/>
adventure <br/>
& recollected that on the way to & from chlane <br/>
i had just been aware of passing twice right under<br/>
jones nose<br/>
a feature that stuck out from my earlier preparation<br/>
& you may recall my having mentioned it here before<br/>
too<br/>
& shown its outline on this topo <br/>

not of the nose i mean but of my showing it<br/>

& still well within the state reservation<br/>

& before i knew it i was on a tear again<br/>
& halftime was showing every sign of drawing quickly<br/>
to a close<br/>

from my previous 2 passes i knew just where to park<br/>
& having in hand both the topo & the state park map<br/>
i easily found my way onto old adams road<br/>
& proceeded to its intersection with the appalachian<br/>
trail<br/>
& finally to the junction with the red gate trail <br/>
also shown<br/>
just west of the target area<br/>

from there it was very hard going in the densest woods<br/>
i had seen yet<br/>
but i fought my way in & all around & back out <br/>
not once but twice<br/>
entering from 2 different angles & reemerging in<br/>
opposite directions<br/>
& figured i had made a really earnest try once again<br/>
before giving it up as yet another tough nut<br/>
my 11th<br/>

it was some consolation for me to recall jespers<br/>
fourth law<br/>
macedonia was not built in 4 days<br/>
tho alexander might have quibbled<br/>
but i was glad also to realize that my halftime<br/>
celebration could indeed continue til i actually find<br/>
a 23rd rock<br/>

& again i might have just resumed resting on my<br/>
mountain laurels<br/>
but again recalled another nearby tripoint i had been<br/>
overlooking<br/>
while she was practically staring me in the face<br/>
right between greylock summit & jones nose<br/>

& tho the cheshire harbor trail that presumably led<br/>
directly to it was not as prominently advertised as<br/>
jones nose<br/>
it was nevertheless easy enough to find & to follow<br/>
directly to the target area <br/>
at a point which the topo shows smack dab on the trail<br/>
& the state park map shows a hair east of it<br/>
<br/>
so this baby should have been in plain view along the<br/>
trail<br/>
<br/>
but wasnt<br/>
<br/>
nor did beating all the nearby bushes reveal her<br/>
<br/>
& so i had to accept that i had already laid a full<br/>
dozen elusive eggs<br/>
<br/>
but on the other hand<br/>
my halftime celebration was still alive & in effect  <br/>

when i found the ski lift not operating at the first<br/>
& a weekend parking fee in effect at the second<br/>

but i really couldnt walk any more anyway<br/>

where i am still celebrating halftime intermission in<br/>
good conscience<br/>
having earnestly tried to resume the second half of my<br/>
perfection try<br/>
but for which there hasnt yet been any sign of a<br/>
cosmic kiss or nod<br/>
<br/>
it reminds me of the time i set out to string 2 dozen<br/>
pearls of blue ridge tricounty point tries<br/>
& settled in the end for only a perfect dozen<br/>
<br/>
happily there is all the time in the world to consider<br/>
this further<br/>
