depa arc survey must have traveled from west to east<br/>
because the 1892 markers that recapitulate it increase<br/>
in their radial distances from the courthouse spire as<br/>
they approach the river <br/>
as a consequence of the progressive abrasion &<br/>
lengthening of the original survey chains in 1701 <br/>
is not supported by my measurements of their radial<br/>
distances from the lost but hypothetically calculated<br/>
original horse dyke center point <br/>
that was actually used in the 1701 survey <br/>

& this entire misconception of his<br/>
if that is indeed what it is<br/>
as i now believe<br/>
may be purely a consequence of his mistaking the<br/>
courthouse for the true center of that sector<br/>
<br/>
instead i believe the evidence now points to an<br/>
original east to west arc survey in 1701 <br/>
as sandy himself also suggests elsewhere <br/>
in apparent contradiction of himself<br/>
& as i believe perry also indicates<br/>
<br/>
this 1701 survey however did not necessarily reach<br/>
much beyond point f in the perry diagram <br/>

where i seem to recall it was stalled by the double<br/>
bend of the river depicted there & by the white clay<br/>

& it is quite possible that neither graham in 1850 nor<br/>
hodgkins in 1892 actually recovered any 1701 rocks<br/>
westward of the christiana kennett pennsboro tertiary<br/>
tripoint <br/>
aka point e<br/>
if indeed any were ever installed beyond there<br/>
<br/>
for the data suggest that hodgkins in 1892 may have<br/>
been able to recover only the more easterly markers of<br/>
the 1701 survey<br/>
& that the chain abrasion process did actually produce<br/>
a slight lengthening of the radial distances there<br/>
but moving away from rather than toward the river<br/>
& only for several miles before finally petering out<br/>
<br/>
but the increase in chain length actually amounted to<br/>
much less than was indicated by schencks presumed<br/>
maths based on the wrong center point<br/>
which would actually have pulled all their chains into<br/>
the likes of taffy or bubble gum<br/>
<br/>
& the radial distance data also suggest that hodgkins<br/>
may have trimmed the curvature back himself from about<br/>
point f to point e <br/>
likely without benefit of any original 1701 rocks <br/>
& thus may have rescued the arc from spiraling out so<br/>
much as it might have if it had been continued any<br/>
farther westward in 1701<br/>

for the increase in radial distance ceases & in fact<br/>
reverses into a slight decrease everywhere to the<br/>
westward of the maximum radial distance<br/>
which occurs near the northernmost point of depa<br/>
<br/>
this suggests there was a slight deliberate or chance<br/>
trimming between points f & e in 1892 <br/>
but so modest as to be imperceptible next to the<br/>
trimming that was done between e & d in 1850<br/>
<br/>
& of course all of this is subject to verification by<br/>
hodgkins & perry themselves whenever they do turn up<br/>
