LTPLRU
Revisited
Today the GBBE group revisited
the Lithuanian-Polish-Russian tripoint. An officer at the Polish Border Police
joined the group as a guide for two hours. --The visit was most successful. It
was also contact with Russian border troops, Mr. Rolf Palmberg reports on
telephone from Northeast Poland.
Three different points at the LTPLRU
tripoint was actually studies. The members of the border expedition is at the
moment on their way into Lithuania and will this afternoon arrive to the town of
Vistytis where they will study the ex-Soviet border fence, the divided lake and
the divided town itself. About six Lithuanian nationals are still living on
Russian territory adjacent to the boundary, while they are getting electric
power and water supplies from Lithuania. Still the former Soviet republic
boundary works as an administration line.
In yesterday's GBBE report (No. 1)
from BYLTPL it was not mentioned that the river at the tripoint was about 2-3
meter wide, and was characterised as "a big creek or small river". Since the
stream was rather strong and as the character of the river bottom was
uncertain it was this time not done any attempt to carry out the
traditional GBBE tripoint dance.
