okayy the surveyors have finally corrected & sorted everything out
for us
& i am pleased to report the following superfine mdvawv coords
have now been confirmed & double checked by them

& a visual of their plat is still to come later this week
also
when the survey chief returns from vacation next week i hope to
ask him further

how did he ever manage to read the ridge line & low water line &
settle on their conjunction at such an exacting point
given how elusive we know both of these lines are on the ground
there

& have this survey & its definitive tristate coords been legally
adopted yet
& if so by which state or states
until then i think some reserve may be in order
but this is clearly the most hopeful development toward the
desired end since we began trying this point over a decade ago
& even assuming these outstanding questions are answered to
our complete satisfaction
some reserve may still be in order
as there may still remain a possibility of positional displacement
due to a change in the low water line of the potomac
for that alone will most probably remain the statutory description
of where maryland ends regardless of any vawv survey results
however
despite all these potentials for a slight deterioration of exactitude
we still do appear capable now of getting to within about 10 feet
of the absolute truth here on the ground as of 1999 at least
just by using any ordinary gps receiver
& probably of getting even closer than that
with the help of the plat
& if there is any deterioration at all for any reason
the use of a professional calibre gps to recover the exact point
besides being impractical or prohibitive
may confer no real advantage anyway
