Arif points out that Beecroft Pen doesn't show up as Jervis Bat Terr on some
maps. This is certianly true of the new Wollongong Special 1:250 000 topo
available last year.

Also, the 1:25 000 NSW topos for the early 70s show it as belonging to
Shoalhaven municipality/shire in NSW, not to Jervis Bay Terr. the Currarong
1:25k topo also shows a further 'Commonwealth territory" to the westof
Crookhaven Bight at the neck of Beecroft Pen.
I suspect that these are then Commonwealth (ie federal) military trianing
territories (ie bombing ranges) and thus administered/controlled fomr the
Naval base at Jervis Bay itself, rather than an integral part of the JB
Terr. but Inhave not looked deeply into the matter. As no one lives at the
affected points on Beecroft, it makesl ittle difference to everyday life, as
the Pen is mainly scrub with a road leading to a lighthouse (lighthouses are
all on Federal land too, around Australia) at the end, which used to be
manned but no longer is as far as i am aware.

I do have the treaties from the NSW/Australian creation of Jervis Bay, so I
will have to consult them, but as they refer to land parcels, rather than
physical features for their definition of the territory this could be quite
time consuming.

The following scans should overlap, and are tsaken from the Central Mapping
Authority of NSW, "Currarong", sheet 9027-I-N, 1:25 000 topo map, 1st
edition, 1973, reprinted 1981.
